Shea Butter, also known as Butyrospermum parkii, is extracted from the nuts that come from the shea tree. These trees grow in the Sahel belt of West Africa and is very important in supporting these areas as the harvesting provides jobs for the women. Unrefined Shea Butter contains a sizeable quantity of unsaponifiable fats, vitamins and other essential elements, which help cell regeneration and capillary circulation. Unrefined shea promotes the healing of small wounds, stretch marks, eczema, cracked and irritated skin and skin ulcers. It is wonderful for aging skin, sun damaged skin, acne and can moisturize the very dryest skin. It has a natural, nutty scent, is ivory to a creamy yellow color and spreads like butter.
Refined Shea Butter is white and odorless. The refining process removes the natural scent and color, but the real problem is that it strips the natural shea butter of all of its therapeutic benefits. It may be visually appealing, however it lacks the moisturizing, healing and nutritive properties of the unrefined shea butter. Many companies use the refined shea butter and while it may feel and look good, it will not deliver the benefits that shea butter is famous for.

Our Whipped Shea Butter also contains Jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, pearl white mica (gives a beautiful sheen), silica spheres and rice powder (nice slip and a less "oily" feel), and organic lavender & vanilla for a light, wonderful scent.
